Personalized Family Dentistry Services

We understand developing a fear-free and positive relationship with toddlers sets the stage for a lifetime of good oral health. Being treated by a compassionate dental team that understands the needs of young children provides a solid foundation for their future smile and oral health. An integral part of our preventive program for pediatric patients includes periodic fluoride treatments and the application of dental sealants.
To help you maintain exceptional oral health that lasts a lifetime, we stress the importance of preventive care. That means urging all of your family members to get checkups and professional cleanings every six months. Our comprehensive dental hygiene program is designed to preserve your teeth and supporting structures by preventing the onset, progress and recurrence of dental disease.
For three decades, Gitlin Dental Group has provided compassionate and personalized dental care to patients with special needs, including those with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, ADHD, autism or developmental disorders. Having an in-house certified dental anesthesiologist enables our practice to accommodate the sedation need of patients that can’t receive dental work without it. Typically, hospitals in Long Island have a six-month waiting list for special needs patients that require general dental anesthesia, versus our capability to deliver these services within one to two weeks.
“Rain, sleet or snow, someone’s always here.” Gitlin Dental Group is open seven days a week, which makes it easy to accommodate dental emergencies. All our dentists live locally, which helps if you need a same-day appointment. If a damaged or infected tooth is left untreated, this increases the risk of the infection spreading. If you’re experiencing tooth pain, have a broken or knocked-out tooth or any other painful dental symptoms, we recommend you contact Gitlin Dental Group as soon as possible. All of our dentists have experience providing emergency dentistry in Bethpage and Albertson, NY and can treat a comprehensive range of non-life-threatening dental issues under one roof.
Although we always try to save natural teeth, this isn’t always possible. Extractions are commonly performed when a deciduous (baby) tooth is reluctant to fall out, a tooth has far too much damage to restore or when third molars (wisdom teeth) fail to properly erupt and cause tooth and gum pain. At Gitlin Dental Group, we routinely use platelet rich fibrin after an extraction, which has effectively eliminated all instances of dry socket in our patients. Dry socket is an acute inflammation of the alveolar bone around the extracted tooth, characterized by breakdown of the clot formed within the socket and severe pain. For more than six decades, corticosteroid injections have been used as an effective treatment to reduce pain and swelling after wisdom tooth removal. We offer this as standard practice to patients that have no contraindications.
To maintain your optimal oral health, we recommend professional dental cleanings twice a year. Thoroughly removing plaque and debris from underneath your gum line and in between teeth is extremely important, and can’t be done properly at home. These cleanings are instrumental to detecting decay and early-stage gum disease (gingivitis) and preventing both of these conditions from wreaking havoc on your oral health.
Traditional dental materials like amalgam have been used successfully to restore teeth with decay since the early 1800s, yet far better restorative choices are available today. The latest composite materials are strong, durable and offer the most esthetically pleasing and natural-looking results. Composite fillings are made of a combination of biocompatible resins and finely ground, glass-like filler materials. They’re manufactured in a complete range of natural tooth shades and provide a more cosmetically pleasing option than traditional “silver” fillings. In addition, they eliminate potential sensitivity to metal fillings.

When dental decay, cracked fillings, root canals or tooth grinding (bruxism) have caused extensive damage to the underlying tooth structure, a dental filling may not provide sufficient restoration to protect the tooth. The only way to completely restore the cosmetic appearance and function of a compromised tooth is with a zirconia or porcelain dental crown that fits over the tooth after it’s modified in size and shape. A dental bridge consists of an artificial tooth or teeth supported by crowns covering modified teeth on each end. Crowns are also used as the final restoration for dental implants, to prevent extraction of a cracked tooth or as an alternative to porcelain veneers for badly discolored or stained teeth. For your convenience, we offer Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics/CEramic REConstruction (CEREC®) crowns and bridges created from blocks of high-quality dental ceramic with our on-site milling machine, which enables same-day restorations.

With a demonstrated success rate of well over 90%, root canal procedures are the most effective procedure for saving and retaining a tooth that has been severely compromised by dental decay or injury. During a root canal procedure, our dentists remove the diseased dental pulp, clean the internal portion of your tooth, then fill all the prepared canals with a biocompatible filling material. Although root canal therapy is typically performed under local anesthesia, we also offer additional dental sedation options to reduce dental anxiety. Because a root canal increases the tooth’s vulnerability to stress and fracture, a permanent crown is required to protect the tooth from further damage.

The clinical term for chronic jaw clenching and grinding of teeth is “bruxism.” While stress and anxiety are the most common causes of bruxism, other contributing factors include sleep disorders, an abnormal bite and missing or poorly aligned teeth. To alleviate the symptoms of bruxism, we can customize a night guard that you’ll wear when sleeping. This appliance is designed to fit over your teeth and keep your jaws slightly apart. Wearing a customized night guard is a minimally invasive method for preventing muscle strain, excessive pressure on your temporomandibular joints (TMJs) and dental damage, including chipped or cracked teeth.
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), the most common form of sleep apnea, impacts nearly 1 billion people worldwide. OSA occurs when an obstruction in your airway interferes with the flow of oxygen through your nose or mouth during sleep. If you’re afflicted with OSA, the muscles of your throat and mouth relax during sleep to the point that they fall back into your upper airway and create a blockage that restricts breathing. Symptoms include loud snoring, episodes of breathing cessation, abrupt awakening, periodic gasping for air and difficulties getting a good night’s sleep. Sleep apnea can lead to a morning headache, excessive daytime sleepiness, difficulty concentrating and irritability. Dr. Ari Gitlin completed an extensive course in OSA in 2016, and has a successful track record of treating patients with mild/moderate OSA, as well as individuals that cannot tolerate continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines, with oral appliance therapy.
